Wilkommen! Die Polka-schlingel, a band based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has a large repertoire of German tunes as well as a growing number of swing tunes and novelty numbers. The band has a dozen members and an amazing longevity; it has been oompahing at Oktoberfests and other festivities for over 35 years!
A Bavarian-style band in New Mexico? A bunch of guys in leather shorts, playing accordions and flugelhorns and tenorhorns and tubas? Ja wohl. Die Polka Schlingel, a Bavarian Polka band with over ten members dressed in full Bavarian costume, play authentic "Oompah" music. The band has been in existence for over 30 years (with a few members changing over the years). We play polkas, waltzes, schottisches, landlers, and even Mexican polkas and big band tunes (Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glen Miller, etc.); we have over 300 songs in our repertoire. It's great to dance to, or to drink beer/wine and just listen: Oktoberfest, May Fest, Fasching (Mardi Gras) parties, Beer Blasts, Wine Fests, whatever. Accordion, trumpets, flugelhorns, baritones, trombones, clarinets, saxes, a tuba and drums – these guys can switch around for your music enjoyment. And we sing in German too!
